Porsche Human
Performance - Arctic Heat
Press Release No 1
Arctic Heat (Australia) joins forces with Dr Raj
Jutley and Andy Blow from the Porsche Human Performance team based
at the Silverstone Race Circuit, United Kingdom. The joint venture
aims to further develop a version of the lightweight Arctic Heat
cooling vest specifically for motorsport.
The
Porsche Human Performance facility is a cutting edge sports
science laboratory with services delivered by experts with a rare
combination of academic qualifications in exercise science and
coaching and medicine as well as experience working at the highest
level in motorsport and competitive backgrounds as elite athletes.
Dr Raj Jutley and Andy Blow have co-authored the Motorsport Fitness
Manual published in 2009. The book offers expert information on all
aspects of physical and mental fitness, including diet, training,
safety and medical regulations. It follows the success of the
earlier edition, Fit for Motorsport released in 2003.
The Porsche Human Performance facility has a specialist interest in
heat stress management and athlete hydration. The laboratory houses
a heat acclimatisation chamber which allows competitors to
pre-condition their physiology prior to racing in hot climates.
“Both Andy and I are looking forward to working
with Arctic Heat to develop this product for motorsport. Heat
stress is a major issue for most drivers and we know that reducing
core temperature can significantly increase performance. The Arctic
Heat base vest is a great platform to start working from given its
light weight and sustained cooling capabilities.”

Arctic Heat is an Australian-based company (owned by sports physio
Shane Williams and AFL legend Andrew Bews) specialising in body
cooling vests, other ancillary cooling products and a specialized
medical cooling kit used for post cardiac arrest. The Arctic Heat
cooling vest is now used world wide in sporting, industrial,
medical, military and fire fighting applications. The product range
is unique through incorporating a combination of a specific cooling
agent and fabric technology. Arctic Heat utilise the superior
temperature and vapour management properties of Australian Merino
wool. Scientific studies have shown the vests can cool the wearer’s
skin temperature by up to 17o Celsius for around two
hours.
“Heat stress is a major impediment in many elite
sports – including Motorsport, many of the standard Arctic Heat
cooling vests will be used by V8 Supercar drivers at this weekends
round at Surfers Paradise. We are delighted to be partnering with Dr
Jutley and the Porsche Human Performance team to take the Arctic
Heat cooling vest to a new, specific level of performance and
application.”
