Arctic
Heat Motorsport Vest Prototype Being Trialled Internationally
The Arctic Heat motorsport cooling vest prototype has been developed
and is currently being trialled by drivers around the globe. The
800 gram light weight cooling vest which gives up to 2 hours of core
body cooling is the end product of collaboration between Arctic Heat
and Dr Raj Jutley and Andy Blow from Porsche Human Performance,
Silverstone, United Kingdom.
The vest has additional torso cooling pockets as well as others
strategically located to promote head and neck cooling. This
increases heat reserve capacity and increases driver performance.
Tests are presently being undertaken at the Porsche Human
Performance laboratory to demonstrate improved cognition and
reflexes with less heat stress to the brain.
Prototypes of the cooling vest will be trialled by an entrant in a
MotoGP race in Malaysia in October 2009 as well as Porsche Carrera
Cup guest drivers with Porsche Mobil1 Supercup in Abu Dhabi. Vests
will also be worn by 3 teams (Perez, Khan and Bhamrah) entering the
arduous 10-day East Africa Classic Safari Rally in Kenya where
cockpit temperatures often exceed 50°C. Initial feedback from
drivers has been very encouraging.

by Dr Raj Jutley and Andy Blow in the 2009 event.
